3D CBCT Dental Scan for Dental Implants

Get safer dental implants with 3D CBCT dental scan technology.

What Is a 3D CBCT Dental Scan?

A 3D CBCT short for cone beam computed tomography dental scan is an imaging technology that allows dentists to assess your underlying dental structures, nerve pathways, soft tissues as well as the bone in the craniofacial region.

This device captures about 150-600 images from a variety of angles within seconds. The images are used to reconstruct a 3D image of your oral features and even the nasal cavity. It allows for more precise treatment planning and dental implant placement.

Similar to an X-ray, having a beam-computed tomography CBCT is completely painless. You simply lay or sit down and the device scans your entire mouth.

Professional and Safe Dental Implants with

Advanced 3D CBCT Technology

Got missing teeth? Dental implants are a great way to correct your smile. But poor treatment planning can cause a lot of complications in the dental implant placement process.

At Aria Dental of Annapolis, we take the risk out of your treatment process with our advanced 3D CBCT dental scans. We use CBCT scanning to help our patients achieve better dental implant surgical outcomes.

The cone beam CT scans allow us to diagnose your dental health and plan your treatment before we start the oral implant placement.

Benefits of 3D CBCT Dental Scan for Dental Implants

  • Accurate Imaging

Cone beam computed tomography technology has an excellent resolution. This enables extremely precise measuring and imaging of your oral anatomy. As a result, it allows for proper planning of your oral implant placement. The CBCT scans also make it easier for your dentist to identify the exact location of your dental implant procedure.

  • Non-Intrusive

With this technique, you don't need to bite on an uncomfortable mold or a piece of plastic. The CBCT device can image your entire mouth without you having to do anything. This is a great feature for patients with delicate teeth and gums.

  • Minimal Low-Dose Radiation Exposure

Reducing radiation in dental treatments is a priority for our dentists. That's why we use CBCT dental imaging. It minimizes the amount of radiation you're exposed to while still taking very accurate images of your oral structures.

  • Short Scan and Treatment Time

A 3D CBCT dental scan takes about 20- 40 seconds to complete. Within these seconds, it can take between 150 to 600 high-quality images of your entire mouth. Apart from a short scan, dental cone beam computed technology also reduces treatment time. Since the images show your entire dental structure, our dentist knows where to go during the implant placement. As a result, they can complete the procedure quicker than usual. It also reduces the time you're under anesthesia.

  • Proper Bone Quality Assessment

Bone quality affects the success of bone implants. Good and healthy bone quality around an implant offers the needed bone stimulation for your implant's stability. Our CBCT machines offer appropriate evaluation of your bone quality. This can help give your implants the best possible chance of success.

  • Safer Dental Implant Procedure

Dental implant procedures involve drilling and operating near blood vessels, nerves, and sinuses. That's why they require 3D imaging for safer treatments. CBCT scans allow our dentists to have better precision when performing your implant procedure. Because the dentist can plan how to approach the procedure, they will be able to avoid the sensitive areas in your mouth at all costs. This way you can expect less risk of injury.

  • Natural and Long-Lasting Results

Thanks to 3D dental image technology, your smile will appear more natural and last longer. This is because CBCT scans allow your dentist to place implants properly so that they align with the natural placement of your jaw.

How It Works

  • Step 1: Consultation

Visit our dentist for an oral implant evaluation. Tell us about your dental implants and we will assess whether you are fit for an implant placement procedure. In case there's a possibility you are pregnant, ensure you inform our dentist.

If you are, our dentist will recommend a cone beam computed tomography scan.

  • Step 2: Preparation for CBCT Scan

We will ask you to remove any item that may interfere with the 3D imaging, including jewelry, hairpins, hearing aids, eyeglasses, and any metal objects. Removable dental work may also need to be removed. But its advisable to let our dentist/oral surgeon assess them first.

  • Step 3: 3D Imaging

Our dentist will request you to lie on the exam table or sit in the exam chair. We will position you so that your mouth is centered on the beam. You will need to stay still during the scan. During the cone beam CT exam, the device will rotate around your mouth in a complete 360-degree rotation while capturing multiple images from different angles. This process can take between 20 to 40 seconds.

  • Step 4: Reconstruction of the Scans

Well digitally combine the scans to form a 3-D image to give us valuable information about your oral and craniofacial health.

  • Step 5: Dental Implants

After assessing the 3D scans, the dental implant process starts with a titanium rod that is threaded just like a screw at one end. We will open up your jaw to reveal the jaw bone and insert the implant through the gum, screwing it into the jaw. You can start healing after the process.
