Fixed Dentures

Fixed dentures are an excellent solution for those who need to replace some or all of their teeth. They offer many advantages over a traditional denture, such as the ability to eat the same foods as you did before and improved comfort. However, not everyone is a good candidate for fixed dentures. If you think this is your best option, it's important that you meet with an experienced dentist who can help you understand if fixed dentures are right for your needs and provide them if they are! Understanding what makes someone a good candidate and why others aren't will help ensure that your experience with fixed dentures is positive from start to finish.

What Are Fixed Implant Dentures?

The seven most common types of fixed dentures include complete dentures, partial dentures, overdentures, dental bridges, All-on-4 implant dentures, dental crowns and dental implants.

Fixed implant dentures are fixed to the top of implants that have been surgically placed in the jawbone to serve the same purpose as the roots of natural teeth. They are an ideal solution for those who need all or many of their teeth replaced.

There are many reasons for tooth loss, including gum disease and other dental complications. Before the creation of dental implants, dentures relied on a small amount of suction to stay in place. Implant-supported dentures are less likely to slip out of place than traditional dentures, which can be a big relief for those who have struggled with this problem.

Fixed implant dentures offer a more cost-effective and efficient strategy for permanently replacing all of the missing teeth in a patient's mouth instead of using a single dental implant for every missing tooth.

Patients can even receive a partial denture to replace a section of teeth when not all of the teeth on the lower or upper jaw are missing. Your oral health will be strengthened since the surrounding teeth will be prevented from shifting out of place once the partial fixed dentures are in place.

  • What is the Process to Get Fixed Dentures?

X-rays of your jaw may be taken to pinpoint the location of anatomical structures such as nerves, sinuses, and bone.

The surgery to place the dental implants that support a fixed denture is a simple, routine procedure performed under local anesthesia. To avoid anatomical structures and maximize support, the implants will be placed in your jaw at specific positions. The implants will be left to heal for several months before a temporary set of teeth will be attached. They will stay in your mouth for approximately three months until the implants are fully fused to your bone and healing is completed.

This surgery often takes one to three hours, depending on how many implants are needed.
