Dentures have changed a lot since they were made of wood about 500 years ago, but the basics are the same. When an entire section of teeth is in need of replacement—due to trauma, tooth decay or gum disease—a partial or full line of teeth is created and fitted into the mouth; today, instead of wood, we use medical grade composite resin for the teeth and then fit them into a custom-molded plastic base, created to accommodate the unique contours of your mouth. Dentures, while not as long-term a solution as implants, are an efficient and economical alternative.
Dentures in Annapolis
You may have read that many replacement teeth are made from porcelain, also known as ceramic. Porcelain is an excellent choice for restorations like crowns, veneers, and bridges. For fixed dentures, however, we use medical-grade composite resin. Because fixed dentures are anchored to dental implants and subjected to the full force of biting and chewing every day, composite resin offers superior resilience and is easier to repair if a tooth ever chips or wears over time
Fixed dentures are implant-supported and do not require removal for cleaning. Because they are anchored directly to dental implants, they function and feel closer to natural teeth than traditional removable dentures and provide superior stability when eating and speaking.
